National Wear Red Day® is Friday, February 7, 2025, and people and landmarks across the U.S. – from news desks to iconic buildings – will “Go Red” to raise awareness and education around women’s heart health as part of the American Heart Association’s American Heart Month celebration.
We wear RED to make sure every woman is seen, heard, and counted when it comes to her health. Women at every age, stage and season of life need our support as we take on their greatest health threat – cardiovascular disease.
Why Go Red?
• Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, but many instances can be prevented through education and a healthy lifestyle.
• As women age and change, so does their risk for cardiovascular disease. Go Red for Women provides credible, equitable, science-backed resources to support women through every stage of life.
• Awareness is critical. Everyone needs to know that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women.
Key Statistics
• Only 44% of women are aware that cardiovascular disease is their leading cause of death.
• Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of new moms as the leading cause of maternal mortality.
• Women experience unique life stages, like pregnancy and menopause, that can increase their risk of developing cardiovascular diseases over the course of their lifetime.
• Stroke is the No. 3 cause of death in women. One in five women will have a stroke.
• Nearly 45% of women over age 20 are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.
